Steven Marc Beddow has been named Chief Risk Officer at HSBC Bank Malta plc, it announced on Thursday. His appointment will become effective upon receipt of regulatory approval.

He will replace Gerard Walsh, who will be leaving the role with effect from 4th November 2022.

Mr Beddow has over 20 years of experience at HSBC Group, having worked at a number of its entities across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. He is a Risk Generalist who has worked across retail, commercial, and private banking.

His most recent role was Chief Risk Officer at HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, which operates across multiple jurisdictions with a number of lines of business. Additionally, Mr Beddow has held a variety of director positions, served on country level executive committees, led transformation work, and has also co-sponsored a country level diversity and inclusion committee.

He describes himself as an individual that enjoys “helping businesses grow safely and building and running diverse teams”.

Mr Beddow holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Modern Languages from University of Oxford.

Forming part of HSBC Group, HSBC Bank Malta plc has been operating in Malta since 1999, providing a range of financial services including wealth and personal banking, commercial banking, and global banking and markets. The bank is also active in life assurance and fund management areas through its specialised subsidiaries.
