Stargate Studios Malta is celebrating a major milestone after being nominated for an Emmy Award for their work on the Black Mirror episode ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ from the latest season of the Netflix series.

The local VFX company announced the news on social media, expressing gratitude to their team and international collaborators. The Emmy nomination falls under the category ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode’.

“We are absolutely chuffed to announce that we're nominated for an Emmy,” the company wrote, highlighting the contribution of Jonathan Caruana, Stargate’s VFX Supervisor, who led the Malta-based team.

The episode, part of the dystopian anthology series created by Charlie Brooker, featured a blend of retro space aesthetics and cutting-edge digital effects, much of which was delivered with input from Stargate’s Maltese operations. The studio also credited Josie Henwood and James MacLachlan from the Black Mirror creative team for their collaboration.

Stargate Studios Malta, known for its high-end post-production services including visual effects, audio post, digital scanning, and immersive technologies, has worked on notable productions such as Luzzu, Death and Other Details, The Madame Blanc Mysteries, and Testament: The Story of Moses.

The Emmy Awards ceremony is expected to take place on 14th September, where Stargate Studios Malta will be competing alongside other visual effects teams behind The Umbrella Academy, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Penguin, and Severance.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to work on it,” the studio stated. “We’re honoured to be recognised for our hard work and dedication. Fingers crossed for the big night!”
