St Julian’s Villa Fieres has undergone restoration works by Central Business Centres (CBC) plc, turning it into an exclusive commercial space with a unique location in Spinola Bay, a spokesperson for Cortis Group has shared.

CBC, which holds a number of properties within its portfolio, is a sister company of Cortis Group.

The group further confirmed that the villa, which was originally built in 1890, is available as an upmarket and landmark location for commercial use.

When Villa Fieres was originally constructed, St Julian’s was steadily growing from a fishing hamlet into a fashionable summer resort for wealthier sections of society. The villa, which gets its name from the land on which it is built, known as Ġnien il-Fieres, meaning the Garden of the Knight, has undergone restoration works over recent years.

Of note, the villa was originally conceived as a detached structure, however only treatment of the main façade was given special consideration in terms of order, proportion, and ornamentation.

The façade’s design, while somewhat restrained, is a quintessentially Maltese neoclassical façade, with suggestions of British colonial styles found in buildings from the late 19th to early 20th centuries in places such as Sliema, Ta’ Xbiex, and the Cottonera area.

Villa Fieres’s restoration, led by CBC, was undertaken "in a manner that retains the building’s original elements, whenever possible, including its internal and external stone staircases", the spokesperson said.

Internally, wooden timber beams, together with Maltese patterned ceramic tiles, were laid in order to enhance the original look. Externally, timber apertures have been restored, and the gardens’ walkways have been enriched with marble paving and rubble walls.

In CBC’s Annual Report for 2023, the company had announced that finishing works at Villa Fieres are almost complete, ensuring its unique heritage and excellent location are maximised.

Villa Fieres has since been rendered fully accessible, also through the installation of a beautiful panoramic lift.

It offers over 350 square metres of internal space spread across two floors, over 100 square metres of kitchen space, an enviable 180-square metre rooftop venue, as well as over 800 square metres of surrounding terraced gardens.

CBC is a property development company that operates principally within the real estate and property market to carry out the business of a finance, investment, property development and property-owning company. Apart from Villa Fieres, its extensive portfolio also includes Central Business Centres Żebbug, Central Business Centres Gudja and Central Business Centres St Julian’s, with the latest addition of The Savoy, as Central Business Centres Valletta. This will be developed into a multipurpose building including retail and commercial areas.
