On Monday, Phoenicia Malta announced that Silvan Camilleri has been appointed hotel manager at the company.

Mr Camilleri has worked at the company for the past two and a half years as food and beverage manager.

His new role will see him take on the responsibility for all operational departments pertaining to the running of the hotel, including food and beverage, kitchen, housekeeping, rooms, front office, and the hotel’s newly launched Deep Nature Spa.

Responding to his appointment, Mr Camilleri, who has worked at numerous five-star properties in Malta, the UK, and Switzerland, said “of course, I understand that this comes at the most challenging time this hotel has ever been through”.

He did, however, say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, “which is why over the past few months we have set the ball rolling to focus on creating an even greater experience for our clients and guests than ever before.”

The Phoenicia Malta expressed it is proud to have him, saying he will be a “wonderful ambassador” for the hotel and everything it values.

Mr Camilleri revealed hospitality is a passion of his and provided an insight into his life, as a loving father, and passionate worker, “no one in my family had done this sort of work before, but from the moment I walked into this industry as a part-time waiter in my teens, I enjoyed it.

“Hospitality is about creating lasting experiences for others, and our reward comes from doing that well. The only thing that gives me more satisfaction is seeing my son, [one-year-old] Jack, growing up!”
