Informed industry sources have confirmed to WhosWho.mt that senior HSBC (global) executives met Prime Minister Robert Abela last Friday to inform him of their decision to leave Malta.

The news follows an announcement on Wednesday (today) by HSBC Malta posted on the Malta Stock Exchange that its parent company, the multinational HSBC Holdings plc, has informed its Board of Directors that it will be undertaking a “strategic review” of its indirect shareholding in the local bank.

WhosWho.mt is also reliably informed that HSBC Bank Malta, as a trading bank, is expected to be sold to a local financial institution.
