In an emotional message posted on Facebook, the bar’s owner Leli – known by locals as Il-Pompa – wrote: “We announce with heavy hearts the closure of Salvu Bar after 50 years. A journey filled with laughter, memories, and friends that have became family.”
The news quickly drew a heartfelt response from loyal patrons, many of whom grew up visiting the bar with friends and family.
“Thank you to you and your family for the service you gave us. We will miss you for sure. You were popular for how good the rabbit and beef tripe was,” one customer wrote.
Another added, “We only have good memories in this place,” while others echoed sentiments of appreciation and nostalgia: “Paola will surely miss you,” and “It will be sad to see it go, but I know how hard you have all worked, and now is your time.”
Salvu Bar earned a reputation over the decades for its homely atmosphere and hearty Maltese fare – particularly its fenek (rabbit) and kirxa (beef tripe) dishes.
