Reforged Studios, a video game development and publishing firm with offices in Malta and the UK, has announced the acquisition of Headup, a Germany-based independent video game publisher known for titles including Bridge Constructor, Pumpkin Jack, and Super Meat Boy 3D.

The move marks a significant development for the Malta-headquartered studio, expanding its international footprint and strengthening its position within the global games publishing ecosystem.

Reforged Studios was founded by three Scottish video game veterans: BAFTA-winning games studio founder Peter van der Watt (Blazing Griffin), Colin Anderson (Denki, Rockstar Games, Epic Games), and Ross Laurie (emerging technology entrepreneur – First Tuesday, Line Digital, Visible Capital, top BIMA influencer).

Founded in Germany, Headup has built a reputation for publishing and supporting indie titles across multiple platforms. Its integration into Reforged Studios is expected to broaden the group’s publishing capabilities while enhancing access to international markets and distribution networks.

The acquisition also highlights the continued emergence of Malta as a base for digital and innovation-led businesses. With Reforged Studios operating from the island, the deal reflects a broader trend of locally based companies expanding beyond domestic borders into global markets.

GamingMalta described the development as part of a wider momentum within the sector, pointing to ongoing growth in the local games industry and its alignment with Malta Vision 2050’s objectives for digital innovation and long-term economic development.

No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.
