University lecturer George Vital Zammit has been elected to Parliament as a Nationalist MP.
Dr Zammit will represent the 12th District following a casual election, after PN leader Alex Borg opted to retain his Gozo seat despite concerns that doing so may conflict with the party statute.
A longtime political pundit, Dr Zammit took the plunge into politics in 2024 when former PN leader Bernard Grech entrusted him to draft the party manifesto.
He maintained the position when Alex Borg was elected leader.
Dr Zammit joins Andrew Agius, Stanley Zammit, Graziella Attard Previ, Ian Vassallo ‘Hagi’, John Baptist Camilleri and Graham Bencini as the PN candidates elected via casual election.
They join new PL MPs Ramona Attard, Rebecca Buttigieg, Naomi Cachia, Clint Azzopardi Flores, Mariah Meli, Franco Mercieca, Andy Ellul, and Alex Muscat, who were elected via casual election last week.
Twelve female candidates were also elected via the gender quota mechanism today.
These are Cressida Galea, Fleur Abela, Francesca Zarb, Yana Borg Debono Grech, Deborah Schembri, and Romilda Zarb for PL, and Bernice Bonello, Julie Zahra, Norma Camilleri, Annabelle Cilia, Marilena Gauci, and Miriana Calleja Testaferrata De Noto for PN.
