The Planning Board has unanimously approved Corinthia’s proposed project on the former Ħal Ferħ site at Għajn Tuffieħa, MaltaToday reported.
The Corinthia Oasis project will consist of a 122-room hotel, along with 22 water suites and 17 garden suites.
According to Corinthia’s website, the water suites will consist of standalone bungalows with private decks dotted along a meandering river-like feature. It will be accessible via the resort’s landscaped routes and walkways, both on foot or by electric buggies.
The project will also include a spa, which Corinthia said will become Malta’s most "extensive wellness facility”, sports facilities, pools, and the adaptive reuse of an old military chapel.
Meanwhile, 25 luxury villas and bungalows will be purchased for private ownership. Although the area was originally restricted solely for tourism purposes, Corinthia paid the government €10 million in 2021 for the right to build residential units.
Corinthia had already obtained a planning permit back in 2013 for a timeshare development that consisted of 216 apartments and a number of villa-style pavilions.
However, it never proceeded with this project, instead going back to the drawing board and coming up with a new concept.
