Jean-Marie Mifsud, Malta Digital Innovation Authority's (MDIA) Chief Officer for Innovative Technology asserts that her ultimate goal is to "catalyse digital transformation by providing access to innovate tools and resources, while also fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurship."

She expressed her belief that, in doing so, MDIA wil be able to "deliver tangible benefits" to individuals, society and businesses including startups and scaleups.

This statement follows her recent appointment at MDIA, the authority that serves as both the regulator and promoter of innovative technologies. 

Prior to joining the MDIA, she formed part of the Spectrum Management and Technology unit within the Malta Communications Authority, keeping abreast with new technical, regulatory, and business-oriented developments of electronic communications networks and services. She was also appointed as co-chair of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC)’s Planning and Future Trends Working Group.

Dr Mifsud was also the MCA's lead expert in relation to the European Union’s Space Programme and was a member of Malta’s delegation on a number of European fora related to the EU Space Programme Committee. She was a Board Member of the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), and has served as a member of Malta’s National Space Taskforce.

Previously working with a Satellite Solutions Provider, she was responsible for the end-to-end delivery of satellite communications infrastructure and services on-board merchant vessels, cruise liners and ferries. She has also lectured at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

She graduated from the University of Malta in 2009 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Engineering.

In 2013, she was awarded a PhD in ICT from the University of Malta for her research in Multicast Multimedia Transmission over Wireless Local Area Networks focusing on reliability aspects. Her research has been published and cited in various international conferences and journals.
