Mirhea Vella, an Occupational Therapist with a strong focus on promoting independence and accessibility, has been announced as the winner of the FEM-Up National Contest for Malta.
FEM-Up is an Erasmus+ project designed to inspire and encourage young women to overcome social and cultural barriers and showcase their creativity and innovation in STEM disciplines and entrepreneurship.
Over the past three months, participants engaged in mentoring, self-paced learning, and skill-building activities through the FEM-Up Academy.
Ms Vella’s winning business concept blends her professional expertise in occupational therapy with her passion for interior design, aiming to deliver beautiful, functional, and fully accessible spaces that support independent living. Her proposal addresses an identified gap in the market, focusing on inclusive designs that do not compromise on style or comfort, whether in residential or public spaces.
By winning the national contest, Ms Vella will now represent Malta at the international FEM-Up pitch event in Slovenia this June, where she will present her business idea to an international jury.

When she’s not writing articles at work or poetry at home, you’ll find her taking long walks in the countryside, pumping iron at the gym, caring for her farm animals, or spending quality time with family and friends. In short, she’s always on the go, drawing inspiration from the little things around her, and constantly striving to make the ordinary extraordinary.
