Żurrieq-based fine art wildlife photographer Johan Siggesson has achieved international acclaim once again, this time earning four gold medals at the prestigious 2025 London Photography Awards.
His images – ‘The Dreamer’ and ‘At the Foot of the Mountain’ – each received gold in both the Wildlife and Fine Art categories, a rare dual honour that reflects the photographer’s ability to merge raw nature he encountered in Tanzania and Kenya with his artistic vision.
Mr Siggesson's entries stood out among submissions from over 55 countries, showing global excellence across a wide range of multiple genres including editorial, architecture, commercial, and nature photography.
In a statement, the photographer said: "To be recognised in both the Wildlife and Fine Art categories is a tremendous honour. My goal is always to go beyond documentation. I want to create something that lasts. These animals deserve our admiration and protection, and I hope my work helps bring that message home."
‘The Dreamer’ shows a majestic male lion lies in a trance-like state, half-asleep and completely at peace as the breeze stirs his mane. The image captures a rare moment of stillness in the wild, inviting viewers into the lion’s private world.
A family of African elephants walks across the savannah in ‘At the Foot of the Mountain’, dwarfed by a distant mountain barely visible in the background. This image also won gold in the Nature/Wildlife category at the Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA).
Both photographs were taken in East Africa and are part of Johan’s critically acclaimed ‘ICONS’ series, currently on display at SkyParks Business Centre near Malta International Airport. Each image is available as a strictly limited-edition fine art print, signed and certified.
Through this series, Johan Siggesson continues to push the boundaries of wildlife photography, focusing on some of the world’s most iconic and endangered species.
