With the news that Viking Cruises will return to Malta from July, Mifsud Brothers Ltd (MBL) has celebrated an imminent resumption of operations after the extended pause caused by the COVID pandemic.

After the 15-month break, the company will be restarting its homeporting operations, acting as the port agents and ground operators for Viking Cruises.

Celebrating its return on social media, MBL said it will be “delighted” to get back to work.

Starting from July, Valletta Cruise Port will be the homeport base for Viking Cruises’ vessels Viking Venus and Viking Sea, sailing two different 11-day roundtrip itineraries in the Mediterranean for vaccinated guests.

On the part of the Valletta Cruise Port, it has said it is looking forward to a stepped approach to operations, as during the rest of the year it is estimated to welcome around 150,000 passenger movements on over 100 calls.

MBL is a celebrated Maltese company with a rich heritage. Founded in 1860 under the name C & G Fratelli Mifsud by the great, great, grandfather of current Managing Director Ivan Mifsud, the company was given its current name in 1933.

Subsequently, during the period of 1945-50, the company was appointed as General Agents for Cunard White Star Passenger Line, Cunard Steam Cargo Line, as well as Swan Hellenic, developments which would be springboards to MBL’s growth in the cruise sector and shipping business.
