The Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to supporting Malta’s creative industries with the launch of its new Design Committee. This initiative will play a key role in addressing challenges within the design sector, emphasising on collaboration, and advocating for sustainable and inclusive design practices.

Leading this new committee are Ella Fleri Soler as Chair and Maria Eileen Fsadni as Co-Chair.

An architect, educator, and interdisciplinary designer, Ms Fleri Soler brings a wealth of experience to the committee. She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture (Design) from the University of Malta and has led numerous architectural projects with a strong focus on site-specific design, detailing, and project leadership.

She is also the co-founder of Text Catalogue, an interdisciplinary collective that bridges research and production in architecture and the allied arts. Her collaborations with universities, NGOs, and art spaces have resulted in impactful exhibitions, site-specific installations, and thought-provoking research.

As a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, Ms Fleri Soler contributes to shaping the next generation of architects through design studios, workshops, and critical discussions on architecture’s cultural and political dimensions. She has also participated in global design initiatives, including the World Architecture Festival, and was recently awarded a residency at Berlin’s Spreepark Art Space for 2025.

A cultural practitioner, curator, writer, and activist, Ms Fsadni has built a career at the intersection of art, culture, and environmental justice. Holding a Master’s degree in Art History, she has worked with some of Malta’s leading heritage and art organisations and currently serves as Gallery Manager at Valletta Contemporary.

Ms Fsadni’s dedication to environmental advocacy was recognised in 2023 when she received the JCI Ten Outstanding Persons of the Year award for Environmental Leadership. She is also actively involved with Friends of the Earth Malta, where she contributes to projects that restore and regenerate cultural and environmental sites, including il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna.

Together, both women will work to ensure that the voices of designers, architects, and visual artists are represented and supported, while also creating new opportunities for both emerging and established professionals in the industry. The committee aims to identify and remove barriers, advise on policies that impact the design sector, and facilitate networking and professional development initiatives.

Since its establishment in 2020, MEIA has been a leading advocate for Malta’s entertainment and arts industry, representing creators, performers, producers, promoters, educators, and technical personnel across various disciplines. The launch of the Design Committee marks an important milestone in ensuring that designers receive the recognition, support, and opportunities they deserve within Malta’s growing creative economy.
