MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc has announced that Marcia Juliette De Wachter, residing in Belgium at 51 Boslaan, 3090 Overijse, has been appointed as an independent non-executive director of the Bank and its parent Company, MDB Group Limited, effective 17th March 2020. Ms De Wachter is also a member of both the Board risk and nominations and remuneration committees. 

Prior to joining the Bank, Ms De Wachter served over 30 years in several positions at the National Bank of Belgium, where she became Vice Governor and was an executive Board member for almost 20 years. From 1986 to 1988, she was an economic advisor to the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Belgium. She was also an economics professor at several universities

Ms De Wachter holds a Ph.D., a Doctorate and a Master of Finance in applied economics from the University of Antwerp. She also holds an MA in economics from the University of Chicago. 

Ms De Wachter holds no directorships in public companies whose securities are admitted to trading on a regulated market and has not held any such position in the past five years, and MeDirect Bank has obtained regulatory approval for this appointment.

The bank also announced that its MeDirect Bank SA subsidiary has named Timothy Rooney as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective upon receipt of required regulatory approval. He will succeed Philippe Delva whose mandate as CEO of MeDirect Bank SA ends at the end of August. Mr. Rooney, who will also serve as an executive director of MeDirect Bank SA, is the holder of British passport number 761313687 and resides at Rue Major Rene Dubreucq 19, Ixelles 1050 Brussels, Belgium.

Timothy Rooney

Mr Rooney served between June 2018 and February 2020 as Chief Executive Officer and director of Bank Nagelmackers and Anbang Belgium Holding, both in Belgium. Prior to that, he served as Chief Operations officer of Anbang Belgium Holding and in a number of senior roles in the mortgage, risk and banking fields at Genworth Mortgage Insurance, Deutsche Bank PBC, General Electric Europe and Citifinancial UK. Mr. Rooney holds a BA (Honours) degree in Political Science and Economics from Huddersfield University (UK).
