Today marks 30 years since the start of Baxter’s operations in Malta, a leading manufacturer for medical equipment used around the globe.
Brian Tabone, Director Manufacturing, Baxter Malta, who spoke in a press conference today along with Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, Silvio Schembri and CEO of Malta Enterprise, Kurt Farrugia, said that the company locally employs over 500 people, with the plan to further grow its staff complement.
“All these years, Baxter has been producing medical equipment used in hospitals and clinics around the world – including equipment for IV infusion and nutrition, and dialysis equipment for patients suffering from kidney disease,” he said.
Locally, the company employs staff for its manufacturing, engineering and research and development divisions, as well as various other support services that are central to Baxter’s operations.
Mr Tabone thanked all the staff, who are currently working around the clock to maximise the company’s output in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a spike in demand for its products.
“Through the support of the Ministry for the Economy and Malta Enterprise, Baxter will be expanding its workforce to keep up with the demands posed by the pandemic,” said Mr Tabone.
He added that, Baxter Europe, along with several philanthropic organisations, is donating €2million that will complement its product supply, “and together will continue to help save lives around the world.”
