As part of its commitment to environmentally friendly practices, Maypole Bakery has reached a target it set in July 2020 to take a million plastic bags out the market.

To do so, the bakery has been selling its Maltese bread in paper instead of plastic bags.

Aside from the scheme targeting plastic usage, the bakery is also said to be implementing changes in a number of other areas. Indeed, the announcement was made against the backdrop of a Maypole branch where a green wall is being built.

Visiting the branch on Wednesday, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia congratulated the bakery for its achievement and said that he hoped more companies would do the same.

“Consumers and businesses are crucial elements in the ecological transformation which the Government is pushing”, he said.
