In an era where telecommunications and IT services are converging, GO Business is positioning itself as a leader in providing integrated holistic digital solutions. At the helm of this transformation is Edward Cauchi, Senior Manager of the Enterprise Solutions team, whose energetic blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen is driving GO Business's enterprise IT strategy.
A journey rooted in technology and business innovation
Mr Cauchi’s career began on the technical side, providing him with a deep understanding of client needs across various industries. Over time, he transitioned into technical sales and leadership roles, managing commercial teams in organizations delivering complex IT solutions. His return to GO Business was a natural progression, driven by his belief in the company’s potential to become a powerhouse in IT services.
“Having previously worked with GO, the company has always held a special place in my career. When the opportunity to return arose, it felt just like the right move,” Edward reveals. “I knew I could contribute to GO’s expansion and strategy beyond telecommunications, drawing on my experience in cloud solutions, IT managed services, cybersecurity, and data centre operations.”
The evolution of GO Business: More than just connectivity
The telecommunications industry is evolving rapidly, with connectivity now seen as a basic necessity. However, this shift has led to diminishing margins for operators. "This is why we must position ourselves at the forefront of developing top-tier IT services," says Edward "By doing so, we can become the go-to partner for any organisation seeking a one-stop shop for any IT-related solutions."
GO Business competes and collaborates with both local providers and global tech giants like Microsoft, AWS, and Google. While these companies offer similar services, GO Business leverages its deep understanding of the local industry to carve out a competitive edge. "Most IT providers start from the application level and work downward to reach connectivity," he explains. "We do the opposite. We start with communication—a key enabler—and build IT solutions on a stable foundation, ensuring superior reliability and stability."
GO Business has made significant investments in its Metro Ethernet and international link infrastructure, ensuring high-speed connectivity for industries requiring extensive data exchange. GO is the only operator in Malta with three submarine cables connecting to Europe and North Africa, ensuring greater resilience than competitors relying solely on Italy. Its direct connections to France and North Africa provide geo-location redundancy and improved latency for European and African networks. With multiple points of presence across both continents, GO interconnects at Layer 2 with major cloud providers like Azure, AWS, Google, and Oracle clouds.
Enabling scalable, secure cloud and hosting services
As more businesses shift to cloud-based operations, GO Business offers secure, cost-effective alternatives to in-house IT infrastructure.
"Our data centre-based services provide a range of hosting and cloud solutions, supported by 24/7 monitoring, advanced security protocols, and adherence to industry standards. These capabilities enable businesses to scale efficiently and adapt to changing demands. Additionally, we handle the day-to-day management and monitoring of hosted solutions, relieving clients of the burden of managing their own IT infrastructure," says Edward. "With robust multi-site disaster recovery options, also in partnership with our subsidiary BMIT, we ensure that clients can have peace of mind knowing their data is secure and they are well-positioned to recover quickly from disruptions, minimizing any potential impact on business operations."
Cybersecurity has become a top priority for enterprises, especially with the introduction of the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and the Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2). With cyber threats such as DDoS attacks on the rise, GO Business is taking proactive measures to safeguard its clients’ digital assets.
“With CyberSift as part of the GO Group, we have emerged as a leader in cybersecurity. Our solutions provide real-time threat detection, automatic traffic rerouting, application Layer DDOS protection, SIEM and SOCaaS,” says Mr Cauchi.
Tailored IT solutions for business growth
One of the company’s standout offerings is its ability to provide bespoke IT solutions tailored to each client’s needs. "Unlike off-the-shelf products, our solutions are designed to fit specific business requirements. We have a dedicated sales team who work closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver customised solutions."
To illustrate GO Business’s capabilities, Edward shares a case study involving a local bank. "We started with connectivity—providing fixed and mobile telephony services for the bank and its employees, connectivity from the head office to the branches, and point-to-point layer 2 links to the bank’s outsourced clouds hosted in Europe. On top of this, we added PBX telephony, cloud-based call recording, network security and cybersecurity solutions. We also host backed-up copies of their data at our datacentres, ensuring compliance with regulations. It’s a complete end-to-end solution."
Overcoming challenges in the IT sector
Delivering IT services presents unique challenges, particularly when convincing businesses to trust a service that isn’t physically tangible. "The hardest part is persuading companies to grant us access to their core operations. However, once they experience our service quality, they remain loyal clients."
GO Business is structured into three key teams: Enterprise Solutions, Wholesale, and Account Management & Retention. Backing these teams is a strong technical team is a crucial factor in the implementation and support aspects. "Because I manage both the commercial and technical teams, I can ensure we deliver the solution as promised to our clients, with premium-quality service while providing round-the-clock support for key clients. Furthermore, we’re continuously investing in new technologies, fostering strong partnerships, and listening to our customers’ needs,” Edward emphasises.
A leadership style rooted in collaboration
The leadership approach embraced by Edward fosters teamwork and mutual respect. "For me, leadership is twofold: first, my team needs to feel that I am working with and for them, not just managing them. Second, we must approach clients as if we are the buyers ourselves. If we don’t believe in a solution, how can we expect clients to?"
His background as a musician significantly shapes his leadership approach. "As a percussionist, precision and timing are critical. I set the rhythm for the team, ensuring that operations run seamlessly. I focus on keeping my team on track, aligned and well-supported, ensuring smooth execution while maintaining overall coordination from behind the scenes."
When joining GO Business, earning the respect of his team was a top priority. "I inherited a highly skilled team of approximately 40 individuals who had been excelling in their roles for years. My initial focus was on building trust and fostering effective collaboration. Today, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the team enthusiastic about developing new services and solutions together."
The future of GO Business
Looking ahead, Edward has ambitious goals for GO Business. "We want GO to be synonymous with IT solutions in Malta, just as people associate certain brands with specific products. Our goal is to become the top choice for any IT-related needs."
This vision aligns with GO’s overarching mission: "Driving a digital Malta where no one is left behind. We want to be the company that truly delivers on that promise."
Despite his demanding role, Edward thrives on challenges. "My mother used to say I burn the candle at both ends, but I enjoy being constantly on the go. Effective time management is crucial, and I’m fortunate to have strong support from my family. Ultimately, as long as I accomplish my goals, every effort is worthwhile."
With his dynamic leadership, technical expertise, commercial drive and passion for innovation, Edward is set to propel GO Business to new heights, leading the way in Malta's ever-evolving digital landscape.
