The University of Malta and wider academic community are bidding farewell to Professor Marceline Naudi, who is retiring after a career dedicated to advancing justice, equality and human rights.
Prof Naudi, a social worker by profession, has long been recognised as both an academic and an activist. She served within the University of Malta’s Department of Gender and Sexualities, where she lectured and supervised research at Diploma, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral levels. Her work spanned critical issues including gender equality, violence against women, LGBTIQ+ rights, and broader anti-oppressive practices.
Beyond the classroom, Prof Naudi has been a tireless advocate. She is an elected member of GREVIO, the Council of Europe’s monitoring body of the Istanbul Convention, and has also served on the WAVE Advisory Board. She is part of the core coordinating group of the European Observatory on Femicide and has led a number of EU-funded research projects in Malta. Her most recent work focused on femicide, a subject on which she has consistently been a leading voice.
Reflecting on her legacy, the Department of Gender and Sexualities at the University of Malta expressed gratitude: “Throughout her years, she has not only educated minds but also inspired hearts. A passionate educator, a relentless advocate, and a true changemaker – her impact goes far beyond the classroom.”

When she’s not writing articles at work or poetry at home, you’ll find her taking long walks in the countryside, pumping iron at the gym, caring for her farm animals, or spending quality time with family and friends. In short, she’s always on the go, drawing inspiration from the little things around her, and constantly striving to make the ordinary extraordinary.
