“We have once again been placed among the prestigious Top 1,000 La Liste restaurants in the world. We are very proud to be representing the Maltese Islands,” the restaurant expressed.
The local restaurant scored 89 per cent, doing quite well in the ranking especially when considering that a 75 per cent score was registered as the lowest and 99.5 per cent as the highest score overall.
La Liste is an influential French ranking and restaurants guide established in 2015. It was created to provide a comprehensive ranking of restaurants worldwide, offering diners across the world insights into some of the best dining experiences across different countries and cuisines. The guide lists over 40,000 restaurants, pastry shops and hotels spanning 200 countries and has published over 1,000 guides and publications.
But how does one get a score? According to La Liste, the score is based on five factors:
The first step is taken by gathering reviews of the world’s top restaurants and hotels by more than 1,000 guidebooks and trusted publications and put together a database.
Each review score is then converted into a standard grade, ranging from 0 to 100, according to conversation tables specific to each guidebook.
Thousands of chefs are asked to share their expertise and opinions about local guidebooks. Based on the results of this poll, each guidebook is given a “trustworthiness index” ranking from zero (not trusted) to 10 (very trustworthy).
The average of each listed restaurant and hotel, is calculated on the standardised review scores, weighted by each source’s trustworthiness index.
The last process entails integrating online customer reviews, giving them a 10 per cent weighting in the final “La Liste score.”
