The Malta Police Force has issued a public awareness notice warning people about a wave of fraudulent phone calls in which scammers are impersonating online bank Revolut while spoofing local Maltese numbers.

According to the notice, fraudsters are using technology to make calls appear as though they originate from legitimate local phone numbers. Victims are told that suspicious activity has been detected on their account and are pressured into taking immediate action to “secure” their funds.

Police stressed that Revolut does not contact clients by phone and instead communicates through its official app. They also reminded the public that the bank will never ask for full PINs, passwords, or one-time verification codes over the phone.

The warning comes as several people reported receiving such calls in recent days. One commenter said they were contacted multiple times, explaining that it happened “today with two different numbers and late last week as well,” adding that they hung up immediately after realising the call was a recorded voice. Another individual noted that they received a similar call despite not even having a Revolut account, saying they “immediately hung off.”

Authorities are urging the public not to share personal or financial information with unexpected callers, particularly when pressure or urgency is involved. People are advised to hang up, contact Revolut directly through official channels, and report suspicious calls where possible.

The police also recommend blocking the number and warning friends and family, as scammers often rely on repeated attempts and wide targeting to catch victims off guard.
