Malta International Airport plc has reported a strong first quarter for 2026, with passenger traffic increasing by 15.4 per cent over the same period last year, helping drive group revenue up by 11 per cent to €32.5 million.

In a company announcement published on Monday (today), the airport operator said the increase in passenger traffic was fuelled by “robust demand and enhanced connectivity”.

The group’s net profit for the first quarter reached €9.3 million, marking a 9.9 per cent increase over Q1 2025. Earnings per share also rose from €0.063 to €0.069.

Despite the increase in activity, operating expenses grew by just 0.4 per cent, although staff costs increased by 7.4 per cent due to the recruitment of new employees and additional training initiatives. The company said these investments reflect its “commitment to empower its people”.

The airport also continued advancing its five-year investment programme, with capital expenditure amounting to €11.3 million during the first quarter. Two major ongoing projects include the expansion of the terminal towards the east and the construction of a new business centre that will include a business hotel.

According to the unaudited consolidated income statement, revenue increased from €29.2 million in Q1 2025 to €32.4 million in Q1 2026, while profit before tax rose to €14.6 million.

The group’s total assets stood at €391 million as of 31st March 2026, up from €372.4 million at the end of 2025. Cash and cash equivalents also rose significantly to €35.7 million.
