Malta Freeport Terminals has received components of the two megamax quay cranes from manufacturers Liebherr Container Cranes.

The cranes are part of a €37 million investment announced by Economy Minister Silvio Schembri in January.
The cranes will be assembled on-site and installed by summer, the Freeport says.
They are able to operate on 23,000 TEU vessels and feature an outreach of 72 meters and an air draft of 54 meters.

2021 is set to be the year of Malta Freeport’s highest-ever annual investment.
Aside from the cranes, which were purchased for €20 million, is a €12 million investment into an offshore power facility.
In 2020 the Malta Freeport received 2.4 million containers, and its contributions to the local economy amounted to €160 million.
