The Malta Business Registry has announced the completion of the restoration of the Kalamazoo, a historic register that once served as the official record of companies in Malta before the advent of digital systems.
Used to document and make company information publicly accessible, the Kalamazoo represents an important chapter in Malta's corporate history, with every entry once recorded by hand.
According to the Registry, the restoration project involved extensive historical research, including the collection of testimonials and archival information to better understand the register's purpose and significance. The restoration brought together professionals from Heritage Malta and the Notarial Archives Foundation who recognised the historical value and restored it to its former dignity.
As part of the initiative, the Malta Business Registry is inviting students studying Company Law and related disciplines to visit its offices to explore the restored Kalamazoo. Visitors will also be able to access a digital version of the register and view a documentary tracing the evolution of company law in Malta.
Members of the public are likewise encouraged to visit and view the restored register, which is now on permanent display at the entrance of the Malta Business Registry's offices as a reminder of the country's corporate and legal heritage.
