Oscar Grech, former Registrar of Companies, passed away recently, the Malta Business Registry (MBR) announced on Wednesday (today).
Mr Grech served as Assistant Registrar of Partnerships at the registry from 1967 to 1974. When the Registry of Companies had become an integral part of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) in 1997, he was appointed Registrar of Companies. He held this position until his retirement in 1999, and was then retained as Consultant for another year. The MBR demerged from the MFSA in 2018.
The MBR described him as a “visionary leader whose contributions significantly shaped the Registry of Companies.”
“He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him,” it continued, before expressing condolences to Mr Grech’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Mr Grech’s experience also includes lecturing on company law at the Malta Institute of Accountants, and was also the author of the book “Notes on the Companies Act” published in 2003.
The news of his death was met with an outpouring of sadness on social media, with many describing Mr Grech as a person who took care of his family, but was also vastly knowledgeable, contributing to the country in every position he held over the course of his career.
His funeral will take place on Friday 31st May at 8.30am at the Fgura Parish Church.
