The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry has announced the establishment of a new business council aimed at deepening economic and commercial ties between Malta and Cyprus.

Speaking to Whoswho.mt, Rachel Bondi Attard, Head of Media and Communications at the Malta Chamber, says interest in Cyprus among Chamber members has grown steadily.

“Our members have increasingly shown interest in Cyprus, a fellow Mediterranean island and EU member state, as a strategic partner,” she says.

The newly formed council comprises seven members who will focus on fostering business opportunities and partnerships across the two countries.

“Their efforts will centre on supporting members and the wider business community in internationalising their operations in Cyprus,” Ms Bondi Attard explains. “This includes analysing complementarities, identifying possible partnerships and overcoming obstacles that are encountered when operating across borders.”

Ms Bondi Attard continues: “The Malta Chamber has very good relations with its Cypriot counterpart, also motivated by meetings held between both Chambers’ Presidents and CEOs.”

She also explains how both Maltese and Cypriot Chambers are active member of Eurochambers, the association of European chambers of commerce and industry, and this relationship will further facilitate contacts between the two countries.

"Cyprus has also been on the radar since it will hold the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026," she explains, noting how this makes Cyprus more attractive for the local business community.
