Malta International Airport (MIA) has increased its 2026 passenger traffic forecast to 11.2 million people.

While MIA had initially estimated around 10.5 million movements, it has revised this figure upwards after analysing its results in the first half of the year.

If achieved, this would set a new all-time record, surpassing the 10 million passengers handled last year.

In its financial statements for the first half off 2026, MIA posted an €82.5 million revenue, an increase of 14.8 per cent from the same period in 2025.

Its aviation segment made up €57.7 million of the airport’s revenue, up by 15.6 per cent from 2025. Its retail and property segment accounted for the remaining 30.1 per cent, up by 13 per cent.

Its net profit for the first half of 2026 amounted to €29 million, an increase of 18.5 per cent over the same period in 2025.

Following these results, the Board of Directors approved an interim net dividend of €0.06 per share, which will be distributed to shareholders by 11th September. This is identical to the interim dividend that was distributed last year.

The airport said ongoing geopolitical tensions and market instability related to the war in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz is expected to result in significantly higher jet fuel prices and the re-emergence of concerns over stock availability.

However, it still expects demand for travel to remain strong beyond the summer months, with the European Travel Commission reporting a strong interest shown in Southern and Mediterranean destinations for travel between June and November 2026.

MIA now expects its 2026 revenue to reach €170 million (up from €157 million in 2025), EBITDA to reach €105 million (up from €95 million), and net profit to reach €62 million (up from €49.8 million).
