For ambitious startups, international growth is about more than entering new markets, it's about building the right connections. Whether with investors, strategic partners or future customers, a single introduction can become the catalyst for a company's next stage of growth.

This was precisely the opportunity presented to eight Maltese technology companies that formed part of the Tech.mt-led delegation to GITEX AI Europe - North Star Europe in Berlin, one of Europe's leading technology and startup events.

Representing sectors ranging from AI and advanced digital services to software development and emerging technologies, 7Camber, AMS Consultants Limited, Arbit Technology Limited, Entwine by Cork & Code, Ixead Limited, Lift, Visio Consultancy Limited, and Retrogradient Labs joined more than 25,000 technology professionals from over 80 countries, showcasing Maltese innovation to international investors, enterprise buyers and industry leaders.

For many of the participating companies, the experience offered something that is difficult to replicate through traditional business development: direct access to an international ecosystem actively seeking the next generation of innovative solutions. According to Karl Gauci, Senior Manager – Business Development and Outreach at Tech.mt, this is precisely what Tech.mt’s international business missions are designed to achieve: connecting Maltese companies with markets, investors and strategic opportunities that can accelerate international growth.

Stephen Abela, CEO of Ixead Limited, described GITEX AI Europe as an opportunity to engage with a truly international technology ecosystem.

"The event brought together a diverse international technology community, creating an excellent platform to exchange ideas, explore emerging AI trends and engage with innovators, partners and prospective clients from across different markets. It provided valuable insights while strengthening relationships that we look forward to building on," Mr Abela said.

"GITEX enabled us to strengthen our network, explore new business opportunities and establish relationships that we have already started developing, making the experience both productive and strategically meaningful," said Colin German, General Manager, 7Camber Ltd.

Mr Gauci's perspective was shared across the delegation, with participating companies, highlighting the value of building relationships that would have been difficult to establish through traditional channels.

For Daniel Abela, CEO of Cork & Cose (Entwine), the value of the mission extended well beyond the exhibition floor. "Beyond the pitches and meetings, GITEX opened doors we simply could not have opened on our own. Every conversation sharpened our thinking, every introduction advanced our roadmap, and we returned with a clearer view of Europe's opportunity than any market study could deliver," said Mr Abela.

One of the mission's highlights was the dedicated "Malta's Tech Startups: Building What's Next" pitching session on the NXT Stage. For Gauci, initiatives like these demonstrate the importance of creating opportunities where Maltese companies are not simply present at international event but actively positioned to showcase their innovation directly to investors and decision-makers.

For Chris Grech, Founder of Lift, the opportunity to pitch on an international stage was one of the mission’s defining moments: "Presenting Lift internationally and speaking on stage allowed us to showcase our solution to new markets. The strong interest from accounting firms confirmed that the challenge we are addressing is widely recognised."

Alongside the pitching session, companies also took part in dedicated one-to-one investor meetings, allowing founders to present their businesses directly to international investors, discuss commercial opportunities and establish relationships that could extend well beyond the event itself.

That direct engagement with international stakeholders was equally valuable for AMS Consultants Ltd.

Ing. Stephen Mallia, Co-Founder and CEO , said "Gitex AI Berlin demonstrated that Maltese enterprises could compete on the international stage. Engaging directly with global IoT manufacturers allowed us to showcase Malta's expertise in helping companies navigate EU safety and regulatory requirements."

While the exhibition itself generated valuable visibility, Gauci notes that its greatest impact often lies in the conversations that continue long after the event has ended.  The introductions made during the mission have the potential to evolve into commercial partnerships, investment opportunities and long-term international collaborations.

RetroGradient Labs CEO Natalia Mallia reflects, "GITEX North Star Europe provided valuable insight into Europe's evolving AI landscape and reinforced our confidence in our market positioning. It also highlighted that Malta's innovation ecosystem is keeping pace with international developments."

The Berlin delegation formed part of Tech.mt's wider strategy to help Malta-based companies scale internationally by providing access to global platforms that would otherwise be difficult to reach independently. As Gauci explains, Tech.mt's role extends beyond organising participation at international events, it is about creating the right environment for companies to showcase their capabilities, develop meaningful business relationships and explore new commercial opportunities abroad.

Berlin was only one chapter in Tech.mt’s broader internationalisation strategy. Earlier this summer, Tech.mt, through the inMalta initiative, also led a delegation to London Tech Week 2026, continuing its efforts to position Maltese technology companies within some of the world's leading innovation ecosystems.

Held from 8th to 10th June, the mission brought together 15 Maltese startups and technology companies including 2i Group, A2CO, Arbit Technology, ArriTech, Concept Stadium, CrabNebula, Croftz, CSB Group, Exigy, Lemonworx, Loyale, Neural Deep, QueTech, Talexio, Visio Consultancy, alongside partners that included the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, Malta Enterprise, TradeMalta and the Malta Business Registry.

Throughout the three-day event, participating companies engaged with investors, prospective partners and international organisations while showcasing Malta's growing technology ecosystem. The programme also featured dedicated startup pitches from Arbit Technology Limited, Croftz Limited and Neural Deep Network Ltd., together with networking events designed to foster new collaborations.

Gauci believes that as in Berlin, the London business mission demonstrated the value of presenting Malta as a unified technology ecosystem, bringing together startups, established companies and national stakeholders under one shared vision.

While every international event generates new contacts, Gauci believes the true value of these business missions emerges in the months that follow. Initial conversations develop into strategic partnerships, investor relationships evolve into commercial opportunities, and international visibility strengthens both individual businesses and Malta's wider technology ecosystem.

For the companies that participated in Berlin and London, these missions represented more than attendance at two flagship technology events; they provided a platform to showcase Maltese innovation, forge meaningful international relationships and demonstrate that Malta’s technology ecosystem is increasingly confident, internationally minded and ready to compete on the global stage.
