Maltese production ‘Cookie Box’ is one of the top five winners of the Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival.
Directed by Adam Żurawiecki, the production joins Belgium’s ‘The Cap’ by Claude Neuray, Spain’s ‘In Half’ by Jorge Morais Valle, the US’ ‘Tehran Is Ours’ by Hamideh Azimi and Serbia’s ‘The Service’ by Andrej Sepetkovski.
The story revolves around Palesa, a graduate migrant working as a hospital cleaner in pursuit of following her true calling. This goal makes her risk everything and help entirely a paralysed patient Maria. However, she learned that what happened to Maria wasn’t an accident.
The awards also hand out a ‘Highly commended certificate’. For the 62nd edition of the awards, this certification will be presented to ‘MAR’ by Joaquín Carmona Hidalgo (Spain), ‘Until He’s Born’ by Qingxuan Wang (China), ‘Away with the Fairies’ by Rene Brar (Canada) and to another local production ‘Nailed it!’ by Luke Vella Clark.
The awards will be handed on Saturday 30th November at The Malta Experience Theatre in Valletta.
The Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival is a short film festival open to non-professional productions, film school students, and commercial productions and is held annually during the last week of November.
It is organised by the Malta Cine Circle (MCC), a local network of film-makers volunteers, founded in 1952 with the aim of fostering the hobby of amateur film making.
Explaining the establishment of the Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival, MCC shared that “well before tourism started on the islands, it used to organise a 10 day holiday in Malta for amateur film makers from the UK. Of course, they used to bring with them their movie cameras and film their stay in Malta,” MCC said.
Moreover, these film makers would then send a short documentary of their visit and MCC would run a competition for the best documentary on Malta.
Eventually this led to the launch of the international competition with the first one being held in 1962.
