Local artist Stephanie Borg is making Malta proud after one of her self-designed products, a mug displaying an array of iconic Maltese doors, was featured during a CNN newscast.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Ms Borg explained that her ‘Doors of Malta’ mug was sitting on CNN news anchor Brianna Keilar’s desk whilst on air.

“Sharing Malta’s culture and colours has always been my mission, and thanks to Brianna, we’ve reached a wider audience,” she said.

Ms Borg is known for her products showcasing Malta’s heritage and unique characteristics. This includes the famous ‘maduma’ pattern, among others, in the form of desk ware, silk scarfs and even wedding gift souvenirs.

The Maltese Door collection was crafted after looking at the intricate ironwork, wood panelling and bold colours, which she became accustomed to when she was renovating her new home.

“Each door is so diverse and individual that they almost stared back at me like human portraits. I still find their presence very captivating, demanding my full attention,” she said on her website.

She is a self-taught artist, graphic and surface pattern designer. Ms Borg has buildt her business based on the influences and inspiration garnered from her experiences and environments.

Even though she spent most of her life in Malta, she also lived in the Bahamas, Florida, Italy and the Sultanate of Oman. These “have directly influenced her work and have enriched her love for colour, pattern and texture.”
