Labour MEP Thomas Bajada has been named one of the recipients of the ‘Best Newcomer’ award by The Parliament, a respected Brussels-based journal covering EU affairs.

The award is part of an annual initiative recognising the standout work of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) across political groupings.

Mr Bajada received the honour within the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group, marking a significant achievement during his first year in the European Parliament. He shares the joint award with fellow MEPs András Kulja, Nela Riehl, and Thomas Pellerin-Carlin.

Among his key contributions in Brussels, Mr Bajada served as the lead negotiator for the European Parliament on the recently adopted European Strategy on Water Resilience. He also played a central role in discussions surrounding the revision of EU regulations targeting third countries engaged in unsustainable fishing practices. His report on the matter was adopted unanimously by Parliament.

Reacting to the award on social media, Mr Bajada said: “This is not just an honour, but a reminder that politics, when done with aim, humanity, and perseverance has the ability to touch hearts and change lives for the better.”
