President Geroge Vella has announced the appointment of four new judges to the Superior Court of Malta, in what is a bumper expansion of the judiciary on the back of calls to speed up the judicial process.

Twenty-nine (29) expressions of interest were received after a public call made by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance Edward Zammit Lewis on 12 February 2021.

The Judicial Appointments Committee collectively evaluated the expressions of interest and deliberated on them guided by the Constitution and its own guidelines, before presenting a detailed report indicating the unanimous decision of the Committee on those most meritous of the role of Judge of the Superior Court.

Thus Magistrate Neville Camilleri, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, and lawyers Christian Falzon Scerri and Ian Spiteri Bailey are being nominated to become judges.
