John Consiglio, a prominent figure in Malta’s financial, academic, and regulatory landscape, has passed away at the age of 85.
A former Governor at the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Dr Consiglio dedicated his life to both his family and his profession. Over his distinguished career, he contributed significantly to key institutions including Barclays, Mid-Med Bank, HSBC Bank Malta, the University of Malta, and various fiscal regulatory bodies.
Beyond his regulatory work, Dr Consiglio was a respected lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy at the University of Malta, where he helped shape the next generation of financial professionals.
A passionate banking historian, Dr Consiglio authored numerous books on Malta’s banking history and the broader history of banking across the Mediterranean. His commitment to preserving financial heritage was further demonstrated through his generous donation of selected works from his personal library to the Central Bank of Malta.
