Over his 12 years in various C-level management positions and further 10 in management roles, Enemed Co Ltd’s Chief Corporate Officer Allan Micallef has found one key common element in all his positions – the requirement to engage in change management.
Always finding himself working with entities facing drastically changing external environments, in his work Ing Micallef has regularly faced circumstances where unless crucial decisions were taken, his employers risked losing their very existence in the market.
These instances spanned over more than two decades and notably included the privatisation of the telecommunications market which saw the entry of new operators challenging the monopoly of the incumbent operator.
Additionally, he has seen the liberalisation of the LPG market, the aviation fuel market, and more recently the international push to move away from fossil fuels to cleaner technologies.
In these positions, Ing Micallef always played a key part in recommending and implementing strategies so that the entities he worked with not only survived the external threats but also managed to retain a market leadership position.
He has developed a philosophy that embraces a belief in the involvement of employees at all levels in major decision making, so that not only is there a top-down communication of key decisions, but also a bottom-up communication channel for feedback from employees who are hands-on in their positions.
Ultimately, he has found that teamwork and communication are the keys to success, especially during times of change.
Career highlights include an eight-year stint as General Manager at Comsec Ltd, followed by an extended period at Enemalta Corporation, where he worked as Chief Commercial Officer, Executive Head of Distribution, then Executive Head of Business Strategy. He eventually moved to Enemed, initially as Executive Head responsible for the Aviation Division and eventually as Chief Corporate Officer.
Aside from his professional achievements, he brings a strong academic background to his roles, having graduated in Engineering from the University of Malta in 1994, before studying for a Master of Business Administration at Henley Management College (UK) in 2000.
