Malta-based retailer and distributor Hudson Group, acting through subsidiary Hudson Malta Sales Ltd, on Thursday announced that it is set to open six new retail stores at St Julian’s project Mercury Towers later this year.

The stores, which will span around 2,000 square metres at the St Julian’s development, will bring a number of global brands that are represented by Hudson to the destination. These include Malta’s largest NIKE and Mango stores, together with A|X Armani Exchange, Calvin Klein, Urban Jungle and Tommy Hilfiger.

Hudson Group further added that Hudson Malta Sales has entered into lease agreements with Mercury Commercial Mall Ltd in connection with the said six stores, which are “due to open by the end of 2023”.

The Mercury Towers project is set to open its doors to the public in September 2023, marking the first phase within a six-month launch period that will see it go fully operation by 2024’s opening quarter. The project was designed by late architect Zaha Hadid, and consists of the Grade II listed Mercury House, accompanied by a 33-floor residential tower, and the ME Malta Hotel by Meliá.

The project is being undertaken by Mercury Towers Ltd, which is owned by Gozitan developer Joseph Portelli. The company reaffirmed that during its inaugural phase, starting this year, Mercury Towers will “re-invent Malta’s retail landscape through a curated mix of over 80 multi-category lifestyle brands”.

Primarily involved in the sportswear and fashionwear sectors, Hudson Group’s roots go back to 1987, when it started selling NIKE in Malta. It represents a number of international brands locally, including NIKE, Intersport, Ted Baker, Converse, Crocs, Kiabi, and Mango, among others. It also has a direct retail presence in other European countries and in Africa.
