Members of Hospice Malta’s care team undertook international job shadowing placements during 2025 as part of the organisation’s professional development programme, supported by Bank of Valletta.
In October, Nurse Carmen Carta and Day Therapy Coordinator Marthese Azzopardi visited North London Hospice, where they observed multidisciplinary approaches to palliative and end-of-life care across clinical and therapeutic settings.

In November, Community Nurse Jaqueline Borg and Community Care Coordinator Christine Zammit completed a placement at Isle of Man Hospice, focusing on community-based services, care coordination and patient support outside the inpatient environment.
Hospice Malta said the initiative forms part of its efforts to strengthen clinical and community care services by learning from established providers abroad. The insights gained are being shared internally to inform ongoing service development.
Bank of Valletta and the BOV Foundation have supported Hospice Malta for several years, enabling these international learning opportunities.
A further job shadowing placement is scheduled for February 2026 at Northern Ireland Hospice.
Hospice Malta provides free palliative care across Malta and Gozo to patients with cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and advanced cardiac, respiratory, kidney and liver conditions.
As the organisation continues to expand its services, individuals interested in joining Hospice Malta’s multidisciplinary team are encouraged to visit www.hospicemalta.org to view current vacancies and learn more about opportunities to contribute to this essential work
