Founded in 2005, Malta-based health and care technology innovator HLL has embarked on a mission to modernise the way residential care facilities operate. Its flagship solution, REVO, aligns perfectly with this goal, optimising and simplifying care management so that caregivers can focus on what truly matters – the health, comfort, and dignity of their residents.

Under the dynamic leadership of CEO Arthur Gerada and guided by experienced Product Manager Clara Grixti, the REVO platform has been built from the ground up to address the specific challenges faced by Maltese care homes.

Arthur Gerada, HLL CEO

With over 25 years of experience in IT management and healthcare transformation, Mr Gerada has held significant roles across both the public and private sectors, including the Maltese government, notably with the Ministry for Health and the Ministry for Social Policy. This experience has given him a clear perspective on a prevailing mindset within the local landscape when it comes to technology investment.

“Often, the expectation within these systems is that technology and associated services should be free, or that choosing the cheapest option will automatically deliver savings,” he explains. “In reality, investing in a quality solution delivers greater benefits over time. Opting for the cheapest options frequently ends up costing clients more in the long run.”

This is where REVO aims to make a meaningful impact. The solution helps residential care homes digitalise key operational processes, from resident records and personalised care plans to medication management and scheduling. For care homes still relying on paper-based systems or basic spreadsheets, introducing REVO can result in significant gains, in terms of efficiency, cost savings, and resiliency.

“If we were to consider just the costs of paper, filing, and physical storage involved in maintaining residents’ records, the resulting savings for care homes would already be substantial,” the CEO explains.

Clara Grixti, REVO Product Manager

The idea for REVO grew from a desire to empower organisations while building long-term, customer-focused partnerships. In her role as REVO Product and Business Development Manager, Ms Grixti has spent considerable time speaking directly with clients in the Maltese market to understand both their challenges and ambitions. Many of their needs were not adequately addressed by paper-based records, nor by existing solutions, including those developed overseas.

“Foreign systems were often expensive and designed around different regulatory frameworks and care standards” she explains. “They weren’t built with Maltese care homes in mind.”

This gap in the market led to the development of REVO as a locally built, cost-effective solution, specifically tailored to the needs of Maltese care homes.

Among its strong core features, REVO digitalises resident records, enabling care homes to transition from cumbersome, paper-based processes to a unified digital approach. The platform empowers care teams with tailored care plans and customised assessments, addressing both clinical and non-clinical needs. It also simplifies medication management, treatment charts, real-time charting, and handover notes. Powerfully built reporting and scheduling tools keep daily operations organised and efficient, along with many more useful features. REVO streamlines daily care, elevates quality and consistency, and cuts reporting time by more than half.

“Immediately, when I update a record or take a note, all of my colleagues within the care home receive real-time updates,” Ms Grixti explains. “Everyone knows exactly what’s happening, the moment it happens.” In a sector where errors can have serious consequences, REVO significantly reduces the risk of mistakes while improving efficiency through real-time data workflows.

The launch of REVO comes at a particularly important moment for Malta’s healthcare sector. The country is in the process of rolling out its Digital Health Strategy, which emphasises the role of technology in improving treatment and continuity of care across all settings.

A key focus of the strategy is the capture and sharing of health data between hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community-based services. “REVO helps bridge the gaps that currently exist within the system,” Ms Grixti says. “It enables care homes to become part of a wider digital healthcare ecosystem.”

While REVO has been designed specifically for the Maltese market, the team does not rule out international expansion in the future. “We are starting locally,” Ms Grixti notes, “but we are confident that the platform is robust and adaptable enough to be competitive beyond Malta.”

For now, though, HLL remains focused on optimising the platform for its existing clients. The company is actively incorporating user feedback to refine the solution, develop additional modules, and continuously evolve this powerful solution. Future enhancements may include expanded integration capabilities, such as wearable technology for the continuous monitoring of vital signs.

By combining deep sector knowledge, local regulatory awareness, and close collaboration with care providers, HLL has developed a solution that responds directly to the realities faced by Maltese care homes. As digital transformation continues to reshape healthcare delivery nationwide, REVO is positioning itself as a trusted partner in helping care homes operate more efficiently while delivering safer, higher-quality care for residents.
