As it welcomed February, Hilton Malta on Friday shared that the new year tends to always bring fresh news, with the latest being the appointment of Gilbert Schembri to Director of Rooms.

Mr Schembri’s journey in the hospitality industry started when he was still a student at ITS in 1998, through which he was awarded with a Higher Diploma in Hospitality Management.

Since then, he worked at different established hotels such as the Corinthia Hotel, Cavalieri Art Hotel, db Hotels and Resorts, Hotel 1926 and Palazzo Jean Parisot Valletta, as well as the Seaview Hotel.

“Over the years I held different roles, moving through various departments including housekeeping, front office and food and beverage,” he explained in comments shared by Hilton Malta.

Additionally, throughout his career, Mr Schembri worked in several countries abroad: Czech Republic, Tunisia, Libya, Portugal, Hungary, Russia, England and Sudan.

Through his new position as Director of Rooms, he will oversee day-to-day operations including housekeeping, maintenance, front office, security departments as well as the LivingWell team.

His role ensures that the hotel provides quality service to its guests “with maximum productivity and revenue from the rooms.” Mr Schembri also coordinates administrative and organisational functions and ensures that the hotel is compliant with Hilton Operating Standards whilst also providing solutions to challenges when they arise.

“I believe [that] one of the most important qualities to be successful in my role is to empower good teamwork and communication. I have to make sure that my team does understand all company policies and procedures and to do so one needs to lead by example,” he stated.

In addition, he expressed his belief that organisation is another crucial characteristic to hold as it is essential to keep track of all information with regards to guests’ reservations and requests. He also highlighted that it's crucial to exceed the clients' expectations.

“Finally, I think empathy is key because it is essential to understand what our guests want and provide an excellent service,” he concluded.
