Grant Thornton Malta has announced a key leadership transition as the firm enters a new phase of its development, appointing George Vella as Managing Partner, while also promoting Michael Agius to Partner, where he will lead the Tax, Wealth Management and Family Offices practices.
Mr Vella succeeds Mark Bugeja, who retired after years of leadership, having served as Managing Partner since 2013.
Mr Vella was appointed Partner at Grant Thornton Malta in 2013 and has led the firm’s Advisory practice for over a decade. In this role, he has overseen a broad range of advisory services, supporting clients through complex operational, financial and strategic challenges.
Commenting on his new role, Mr Vella said that he is deeply honoured to take on the position at such an important moment for the firm, with a focus on building on the legacy established, driving growth, embracing innovation, and ensuring Grant Thornton Malta continues to play a leading role within the professional services landscape.
Alongside this transition, Grant Thornton Malta also announced the promotion of Michael Agius to Partner, where he will assume responsibility as Head of Tax, Wealth Management and Family Offices.
Mr Agius joined the firm in 2007 and has built extensive experience advising a diverse portfolio of local and international clients. Over the years, he has developed deep expertise across tax advisory, wealth structuring and compliance services. In his new role, he will focus on further strengthening the firm’s tax and wealth advisory offering, supporting clients as they navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
