The Government has announced a one-time ex-gratia payment for businesses affected by the prolonged power outages that occurred between 20th June and 9th September 2024.

These outages significantly disrupted operations for many non-residential electricity account holders.

The compensation is available to non-residential account holders who experienced power outages lasting six hours or more during the specified period. Eligible applicants must provide details of the total outage hours experienced, which will be verified by Enemalta.

Once confirmed, the ex-gratia payment will be credited to the applicant’s electricity bill by ARMS Ltd.

The payment amount is based on the average monthly electricity consumption recorded for June, July, and August 2022, and reflects the cumulative outage duration during the power cuts period. The maximum payment per non-residential ARMS account is capped at €10,000.

The payment structure is as follows:

Total power interruption duration

One-time payment (% of average monthly consumption)

Six to eight hours

100 per cent

More than eight to 12 hours

120 per cent

More than 12 to 24 hours

140 per cent

More than 24 to 36 hours

160 per cent

More than 36 to 48 hours

180 per cent

More than 48 hours

200 per cent

For instance, if a business experienced a cumulative power outage of 11 hours and had an average electricity bill of €200 for June, July, and August 2022, the compensation would be calculated as follows:
€200 × 120 per cent = €240.

For further details and to apply, eligible account holders are encouraged to contact ARMS or visit their official website.
