The results are in, and Malta has crowned a new set of winners at the highly anticipated Malta International Business Awards (MIBA), organised by TradeMalta. The winners, selected from a cohort of 13 high-powered finalists, were announced during a prestigious gala event on 29th November. The ceremony celebrated four trail-blazing Maltese companies making significant waves in their respective fields.
The MIBAs honour Malta-based businesses that have demonstrated exceptional success in the international markets. The event is a testament to the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit driving Malta's business community, highlighting those who have successfully expanded their operations beyond local shores.
IOT Solutions - Best SME Exporter
IOT Solutions, a company specializing in the design and manufactures Internet of Things hardware together with online software systems, took home the Best SME Exporter award. Since its founding in 2017, IOT Solutions has achieved remarkable international growth, with 90% of its revenue coming from global markets. Despite its strong presence in Malta, where it creates high-value jobs for a talented professional team, the company has expanded its reach to all corners of the globe.
Commenting on the award, Reuben Camilleri, Director and General Manager at IOT Solutions, says that it is solid validation of the company’s, placing it with the best. “The fact that the award is cross-sectoral placed us in competition with other SMEs from all sorts of areas, meaning it is also confirmation for IoT as a sector itself, underlining its important potential in the economy of the future.”
EBO - Best High Potential Exporter
EBO, an advanced AI technology company, won the Best High Potential Exporter award. EBO has made a name for itself in healthcare and financial services, leveraging Artificial Intelligence to help enterprises build stronger, more meaningful connections with customers. A significant milestone was its entry into the UK’s public healthcare sector - a market of 60 million citizens with an annual budget of £180 billion - where EBO achieved an impressive compound annual growth rate of 96 per cent.
CEO Dr Gege Gatt called the award a significant achievement for the company. “The MIBA for Best High Potential Exporter reflects our dedication to driving innovation and impact through Artificial Intelligence. It’s a testament to the hard work of our team and our commitment to advancing health equity across Europe. This recognition reinforces our position as a leader in AI solutions and strengthens our international expansion efforts,” Dr Gatt says.
Salvo Grima Group - Best Emerging Markets Exporter
Salvo Grima Group, which specialises in the distribution of fast-moving consumer goods, won the Best Emerging Markets Exporter category. The stalwart Malta-based company is characterised by a voracious global outlook as well as an entrepreneurial can-do attitude. In fact, the company coordinates distribution to no less than 52 countries worldwide, with 54% of its turnover being derived exclusively from international trade.
CEO Karl Aquilina expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “As a Malta-based, Maltese-owned business, receiving this award is truly an honour. TradeMalta’s support has been instrumental, whether through organising trade missions, introducing us to relevant stakeholders, or offering financial incentives.”
Magro Brothers - Best Large Exporter
Magro Brothers, a household name in Malta, won the Best Large Exporter award and was also crowned the prestigious Overall Winner. The Gozo-based company, renowned for producing and exporting table sauces, has successfully penetrated markets across the EU, the UK, and the Middle East. Each market benefits from customised products designed through meticulous market research.
The company’s recent investment in its Xewkija plant underscores its ambition to cement its position as one of Europe’s top five table sauce producers.
CEO Christian Magro described the awards as a deeply emotional moment for both the family and the dedicated team behind the company’s success. “This recognition honours our unwavering dedication and fuels our ambition to further grow our presence in Europe while continuing to prioritise our environmental responsibilities. This award motivates us to continue expanding and reaching new heights,” he concluded.
