Former Nationalist Party MP and Doctor John Vella has passed away at the age of 86.

Dr Vella first entered Parliament in 1981, contesting on the ninth and tenth districts.

In a tribute shared on social media, Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech praised Dr Vella’s commitment to both politics and medicine, highlighting the positive impact he had on countless lives.

“As a Member of Parliament, he always remained true to his principles and represented the PN’s values with honour, respect, and determination,” Dr Grech wrote.

“The work he did in both politics and medicine reflects how much the wellbeing of the Maltese people was close to his heart. He will be remembered not only as a politician, but also as a man who made a real difference in the lives of many,” he added.
