Popular Italian fashion brand Miss Sixty is set to make a reappearance on the islands in the coming year.
On its social media platforms, Miss Sixty Malta announced that it will be making its return in February 2024, at The Plaza in Sliema. Sharing sneak peaks of what’s to come, the brand seems likely to feature staple denim pieces. This falls in line with what gained the brand popularity in the past and is also aligned with the comeback of Y2K trends0
The brand was internationally founded by Wicky Hassan in 1991 who was also the owner of Energie, a brand that was launched in 1988. In the 90s the two brands merged, along with Killah, to become Miss Sixty.
In 2008, Miss Sixty took a hit due to Hassan’s illness and the economic climate and was eventually purchased by a Chinese company and relaunched in 2017.
Upon seeing that Miss Sixty will be making a comeback in Malta, many commented with nostalgia, recalling memories from the early 2000s when the brand’s popularity was at an all-time-high on the island.
Globally, Miss Sixty gained traction soon after it launched, selling millions of low-rise denim jeans, micro miniskirts and bright colours. At the time Miss Sixty was also popular with much loved celebrities including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham.
On the other hand, the man behind the brand in Malta, Desmond Vella, was a well-known businessman who tragically lost his life due to a brain haemorrhage a day before his 35th birthday, in 2009. During the brand's most popular period, it had three shops on the islands; in Valletta, Sliema and Gozo.
