Claudette Buttigieg has started a new role as Chief Executive Officer at the Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) – University of Malta Research Trust.
Ms Buttigieg is a Maltese Member of Parliament and currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. She was first elected to Parliament in 2013 from the eighth district as a member of the Nationalist Party and served as shadow minister for health. She was re-elected in the 2017 general election, when she was appointed Deputy Speaker, and again in the 2022 general election.
Before entering politics, she was also known to the Maltese public as a television presenter and singer.
The Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) was established in 2011, and it operates as a bridge between academia and the wider community.
Over the years, RIDT has supported a number of projects spanning science, culture and innovation. These include backing the restoration of the historic Matteo Perez d’Aleccio mural in the Grand Master’s Palace, supporting Malta’s first scientific experiment on the International Space Station, known as Maleth, and funding various research initiatives in the fields of renewable energy and artificial intelligence.
