JAYE Malta has announced the winners from the National Finals of its hotly anticipated contest, with Candid being recognised as the Company of the Year for their development of Malta’s first-ever biodegradable mobile phone cover.

Celebrating the award on social media, the company, run by four St Aloysius College students, said it was honoured to have picked up the award and thanked its followers and supporters who, it said, “have believed in us since day one”. The team also gave special thanks to mentor Patrizia Patti.

Along with the Company of the Year Award, Candid also won the Chamber of Commerce Membership Award and the Atlas Digital Marketing Innovation Award. 

Aside from Candid, SilentSave had an excellent evening at the virtual awards ceremony, winning awards in a number of categories, namely the Start-up of the Year Award, the Chamber of Commerce Membership Award, the Digital Marketing Innovation Award, Concept Validation Award, Take Me To Market Award and the Public Vote Award.

SilentSave, for those unitiated, is a project from a University of Malta team aiming to allow individuals to “feel safe anywhere”, with the SS Bracelet, which was designed to facilitate discreet calls for help and reduce dependency on mobile phones when a user finds themselves in an emergency situation.

Glenn Bugeja, Corporate Sustainability Manager at HSBC was awarded with the John Harper Award. Flo-Pot won the Philip Bonnet Award for Perseverance, and Unpuzzling Food won the Enterprise Minister Sustainability Award, which was sponsored by the Ministry for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development.

Unlimited was recognised with the Quality Excellence Award, and the Best Business Plan Award, sponsored by Deloitte. Mycro Pixel Studio won the Ready for Work Award, sponsored by the Farsons Group.
