Cab operators were sent an email on Tuesday afternoon giving them a few hours to halt their operations with WT Global, industry sources told WhosWho.mt.
A ruling by the Administrative Review Tribunal on Tuesday had found that Transport Malta had been justified in taking enforcement action after identifying incorrect information submitted by WT Global in relation to facilities declared as public service garages.
This meant that Transport Malta received legal backing to proceed with suspending WT Global’s operating licence. The move could impact over 300 Y-Plate vehicles operating in the country. WT Global has one of the country’s largest fleet of Y-plate taxis.
Back in 2025, Transport Malta first moved to suspend WT Global’s licence after inspections it conducted on premises the company had listed as service garages. Issues were found when, for instance, according to findings referenced during proceedings, a registered location in Binġemma was found to be land without vehicle access.
WT Global, while saying it respects the tribunal’s decision, will urgently appeal the tribunal’s decision.
WT Global aired its concern that Transport Malta went ahead with immediate enforcement even though during the proceedings the company regularised matters raised. WT Global said that it took corrective action, has enough parking capacity to store its cars, and regularised pending sites.
“For this reason, the company struggles to understand why enforcement leading to the effective shutdown of operations is still being pursued in 2026 despite the company having achieved compliance during the course of the proceedings," it said.
