Business lobbies welcomed the launch of the Vision 2050 strategy document last weekend and provided some suggestions on how it can be implemented in practice.

The Malta Chamber of SMEs stressed that small businesses and sole traders, as the backbone of the Maltese economy, must remain at the centre of this vision.

“Any vision which seeks to strengthen Malta’s competitiveness must place this important contributor firmly at its core,” it said.

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry welcomed the launch of a long-term measurable strategy beyond traditional electoral cycles.

However, it said the vision must be regularly monitored and reviewed to maintain relevance amid technological, social and economic changes.

Moreover, it said that good governance must be a key pillar of this vision, in practice more than in theory.

“Without disciplined execution, the vision risks remaining purely aspirational and serve only as a PR initiative,” it warned.

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association hailed Vision 2050 as a “national milestone that reflects collective ambition and responsibility.

It said that while Malta has built significant economic opportunities over the years, the task ahead is to elevate these achievements, and improve quality, sustainability, innovation, and standards of living across all sectors.
