Bank of Valletta (BOV) has announced that, as from 5th October 2025, SEPA payments will now be processed within seconds, offering customers faster and more flexible euro transfers.

This new service, known as SEPA Instant Payments, allows users to send money in euro to any SEPA account instantly  including during weekends and public holidays. Transactions are subject to standard payment security checks, including a new Verification of Payee (VoP) feature, which confirms whether the payee’s name matches the account holder’s name before the payment is processed.

Customers making outward instant payments through BOV's online or mobile banking platforms will receive near-instant confirmation of whether the recipient’s details match. They will then be able to choose whether to proceed or cancel the payment. Once authorised, a notification is issued within seconds to confirm if the payment was successful or rejected.

Importantly, charges for outward SEPA Instant Payments remain unchanged, making this a cost-effective alternative to using cheques or ordering cheque books.

Customers can also opt to visit a BOV branch if they prefer to make these payments in person.

BOV has updated its Terms and Conditions to reflect the changes brought by SEPA Instant Payments and the introduction of VoP. These updates can be accessed via the bank’s website
