'Blockchain Malta' architect Chris Vassallo has passed away, his family has announced.

Chris Vassallo held an MBA from Henley Management College (Henley-on-Thames UK). In 2014, he had lobbied the government of Malta to create a legal framework for the Bitcoin invention. This concept developed into the Malta National Blockchain Strategy Memorandum which was approved by the Cabinet on March 2017.

Mr Vassallo built the original team that produced this strategy and coined the term Malta Blockchain Island. He is the founder of Project Freedom, the co-founder of the Blockchain Malta Association, was an active sponsor of Bitcoin Club Malta and was a founder of the Blockchain Industry workshop with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA).

In an announcement on his social media page, the family announced that Mr Vassallo passed away on the 3rd of June.

“Chris was incredibly passionate about his work in the finance and hospitality sectors and valued the friendships, partnerships, and professional connections he built throughout his career. We invite his clients, peers, and friends to join us in honouring his life and legacy.”
