On Thursday, BELS Malta Language Schools announced the appointment of Ian Scerri as Head of Business Development.

In his new role, Mr Scerri will be leading BELS’ sales department.

He is a well-known professional in the industry, with over 20 years of experience in English Language Teaching (ELT). He started his career by enrolling as a seasonal English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teacher, following his graduation as a teacher of English from the University of Malta.

Subsequently he was awarded a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA), Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Masters in Education Management in TESOL from Aston University.

“Mr Scerri is credited with introducing the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT), where he also served as the Test Centre Administrator for over 10 years,” BELS Malta explained.

Throughout his career, he also held various positions such as Director of Studies, School General Manager, Teacher Trainer, and Operations Manager. In addition, he has also been part of the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations in Malta’s (FELTOM) executive board.

He regularly delivered workshops for the ELT council and the Masters of Art In Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MATEFL). In 2016, he was awarded the Inspiring ELT Professional Award for his contribution to the local ELT industry.

“With abundant knowledge and experience, Mr Scerri is all set to seamlessly transition into his new sales role at BELS. He will work closely with out partners to nurture and build relationships and guide out enthusiastic and motivated sales teams,” the language schools concluded.

BELS was founded in 1997 with a small family-run English school in Gozo. Now, 27 years later, the company has expanded in two year-round language schools, including one in Malta that also offers seasonal junior programmes.
